Sub-2-Hour Marathon Record Officially Broken

2026-04  Subject to the usual ratification procedure, Sabastian Sawe has made history at the London Marathon by becoming the first man to officially break two hours for the distance, winning the World Athletics Platinum Label road race in a world record of 1:59:30.

What started nearly 10 years ago in an event staged at the Monza racetrack in Italy as an experiment rather than a competitive record race, has seen significant advancements in footwear technology and sports governance.
